Primrose FAQs
What were the Royal Hanoverian Creams?
When King George I came to the British throne in 1714, he brought his famous cream-coloured stallions from Hanover. Bred at Hampton Court, these beautiful cream horses pulled Britain's royal state carriages for around 200 years – and inspired Primrose's regal cream look.
Why did the King once refuse to use his cream horses?
When Napoleon took over Hanover, he captured the royal cream horses there and used them to pull his own coronation coach! King George III was so cross that he used black horses instead of creams until Napoleon was defeated.
Which horses pull the royal carriages today?
The cream horses were retired from royal duties in 1920. Today, grey horses known as the "Windsor Greys" lead the royal processions – you might spot them at big royal events!
