Nutmeg FAQs
What is a Shetland pony?
The Shetland pony comes from the Shetland Isles off the north coast of Scotland, and is the smallest native pony breed in Great Britain. Chestnut is one of the classic Shetland colours, which inspired Nutmeg's warm coat and cheeky look.
How strong are Shetland ponies?
For their size, Shetland ponies are the strongest of all horse and pony breeds! They can pull up to twice their own weight, while big draft horses can usually only pull about half of theirs.
Why are Shetland ponies measured in inches?
Most horses are measured in "hands" (one hand is 4 inches), but Shetland ponies are traditionally measured in inches instead. A registered Shetland in the UK must be no taller than 42 inches!
